Juveyria and Nasheedha win Rehendhi Award

Juveyria Wajdhee and Aminath Nasheedha have won the Rehendhi Award, a government recognition for exemplary Maldivian women, acknowledging their services to the community.

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim Didi handed the awards and prize money to the winners today at a special event to mark this year’s International Women’s Day.

Juveyria Wajedhee, a well-known local chef, was recognized for her contributions to Maldivian cuisine and Aminath Nasheedha was recognized for her efforts to promote bakery. The government introduced Rehendhi Award for the first time this year. Both women have received national awards in the past.

Speaking at the event today, Minister of Health and Gender Mariyam Shakeela noted that opportunities are necessary for the development of women and that development of women is vital for the development of a society. In her speech, Dr Shakeela renewed the government’s commitment to further strive for the rights of women.
