Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has invited companies interested in the development and operation of a tourist resort in the island of Foththeyo in Vaavu Atoll, to submit proposals before 18 May.
Foththeyo, which is to be developed under a sub-lease agreement, was given to MTCC by the government as a subsidy after the company was appointed as the service provider of a Transport Network in the region.
MTCC made the announcement yesterday, and there are two public holidays before the deadline of 18 May.
MTCC spokesperson said that the reason for the tight deadline this time, is that proposals had been invited for this project once before.
He said that the company believes that the time given for submission of proposals is adequate.
The earlier solicitation by MTCC for proposals for Foththeyo was annulled by Civil Court, which also ruled that the island should not be awarded to any group for the development of a tourist resort.
After investigation, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) notified MTCC to call for proposals anew, as corruption was involved in awarding this project to Akquasun Holidays Private Limited by the former government.
