Campaigning will be prohibited from 6:00 p.m. tomorrow, says Elections Commission

Elections Commission has announced that campaigning for the Local Council Election scheduled for Saturday will be prohibited from 6:00 p.m. tomorrow (Friday).

The commission advised that no campaigning for the Local Council Election scheduled for Saturday, 18 January 2014 should take place from 6:00 p.m. on Friday, 17 January 2014 until 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, 19 January 2014.

Article 44 of the Elections General Act states that campaigning is prohibited from 6:00 p.m. on the day before any election, until 6:00 a.m. on the day after the election.

A total of 2,463 candidates will compete in the Local Council Election on Saturday for 132 atoll councillor posts, 951 island councillor posts, and 17 city councillor posts.
