President Abdulla Yameen has recalled the nomination of Ibthishama Ahmed Saeed, the Bank of Maldives Associate Director who he proposed to the parliament as new governor of the central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) earlier this month.
Parliament Secretary General said President Yameen has written to the parliament, recalling the nomination. President’s Office said today that a new name will soon be forwarded for parliament’s consideration, but did not say why Ibthishama’s name was recalled.
President Yameen nominated Ibthishama Ahmed Saeed on 7 January after former Fazeel Najeeb resigned on 1 January citing personal reasons.
Ibthishama has a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from University of Kerala, India and a Master’s Degree in Marketing and Communications from the University of Westminster in London and boasts 10 years of experience at BML. She was promoted to Associate Director last year.
President Yameen lauded Ibthishama and defended her competence during a rally of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), soon after the nomination.
