Ministry to set up foreign affairs council

Acting High Commissioner of the Maldives to the United Kingdom Ahmed Shiaan has said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working to establish a foreign affairs council that will advice the ministry on diplomatic issues.

Speaking to the press, Ahmed Shiaan said today that the new council will play a large role in the new government’s foreign policy. The council will be established soon, he said.

“We are now at a stage where we’re making administrative changes to the Foreign Ministry to implement Maldives new foreign policy. So we have decided to establish a council that will advice on foreign affairs,” the Acting High Commissioner said.

He said the council will consist of experienced consuls and diplomats who will also try to impart their knowledge and experience to the new younger employees at the Ministry abroad.

“The most important objective is to strengthen Maldives foreign policy through their experience and expertise. To improve people's skill in this field, through them,” Shiaan said.

Acting Ambassador Ahmed Shiaan said the Maldives foreign policy will see drastic changes when President Yameen announces it soon.
