JSC concludes meeting without voting on Judge Hameed

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has concluded its meeting held today to vote on the suspension of Supreme Court Judge Ali Hameed, without voting on the issue.

Judge Hameed has been accused of having sexual relations with prostitutes, after several videos were leaked on social media earlier.

A sub-committee of JSC has passed to suspend Judge Hameed, and the purpose of today’s JSC meeting at 2:00 p.m. was to vote to finalise this issue. The meeting however ended at 4:00 p.m. without voting.

Heated debate took place at today’s meeting, which was attended by the ten members of JSC. It went on longer than expected, and was concluded without voting when time ran out.

JSC member appointed by the parliament Ahmed Hamza said that he hopes that voting on the case against Ali Hameed will be tabled for the next meeting.

He said that members expressed different views on the issue at today’s meeting, and that it was not possible to foreknow, based on today’s discussions, whether Ali Hameed would be suspended.

JSC’s sub-committee decided last month that Ali Hameed should be suspended, after he refused to cooperate with the investigation against him.

Ali Hameed has also refused to attend JSC’s investigation committee.

The videos leaked on social media show Ali Hameed engaging in sexual activities with several women in hotels overseas.
