Former Kulhudhuffushi MP Jamsheed Mohamed has been ordered to pay over MVR 200,000 in unpaid dues for a soft loan withdrawn from Bank of Maldives (BML).
BML filed the case against Jamsheed following failure to repay a ‘Lui Express’ loan withdrawn during his tenure as a lawmaker, an unsecured loan.
Jamsheed withdrew the loan in June 2022. According to the case report, the loan totaled up to MVR 280,000.
BML filed the case against Jamsheed in April of this year. Jamsheed had not responded in the case despite receiving the claim form and other relevant documents. As such, Civil Court delivered the ruling in the case in his absence.
In this regard, the Court ordered Jamsheed to repay MVR 231,136.69, accounting for the unpaid dues under the loan, within 10 months, alongside an MVR 5,000 recovery fee.
Jamsheed represented Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in the 19th parliamentary assembly.
