Housing Development Corporation (HDC)’s deputy managing director Fayaz Mansoor resigned on Thursday, a day after managing director Mohamed Mauroof Jameel left the corporation.

Mauroof, who had served as construction minister in former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s administration and played a key role in establishing HDC, was appointed as the managing director of the corporation on December 22, 2024.

He had confided in several senior officials at the HDC that he planned to retire later this year. But in an unexpected move on Wednesday, he tendered his resignation. The reason for the decision remains unclear.

Fayaz resigned from his role as HDC’s DMD on Thursday. The reason for his resignation also remains unclear at this point.

Fayaz, an architect, was appointed as the DMD of HDC on January 5.

He attained a Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying from Australia’s Queensland University of Technology in 1996, and a Master’s degree in Building Science from New Zealand’s Victoria University of Wellington in 2000.

He had played a key role when Hulhumale’ was first reclaimed, serving as a quantity surveyor for the Hulhumale’ Development Unit at the President’s Office from 2001-2002, and deputy director from 2002-2004.

Both Fayaz and Mauroof had been appointed to leadership roles at the HDC after the corporation’s former chief Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed was dismissed in the wake of a corruption scandal.

Mauroof has now been replaced with Ali Zuhair, who had been serving as managing director of the Road Development Corporation (RDC), with state minister for construction Ibrahim Nazeem appointed as his replacement at RDC.
