The Parliament went into recess on Thursday, after completing the first session of the year.
The last sitting of the session ended just before 05:00 pm on Thursday. At the end of the sitting, Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla announced that the legislative assembly held 32 sittings totaling 59 hours during the session. It also held 193 committee meetings totaling 139 hours.
The Parliament also completed work on nine bills. This includes work on a new gang crime bill, amendments to the Immigration Act to ban entry on Israeli passports, and amendments to the Tobacco Control Act to introduce a smoking ban on the post-2007 generation.
Abdul Raheem said the Parliament managed to complete 77 percent of the submitted work.
“I thank honorable members of the Parliament for your dedication and sincerity,” he said.
