A 21-year-old woman fell from the ninth floor of a building, landing on top of the roof of a warehouse on April 18, 2025.
Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau states travel bans have been imposed on all individuals implicated in the incident where a young woman was found seriously injured on the rooftop of a warehouse in Male’ last weekend.
21-year-old Mariyam Yumnu was found injured on the rooftop of a warehouse in the Henveiru district at around 07:23am on Friday, April 18. According to the police, their investigation uncovered that she fell on her own from a skylight on the ninth-floor stairwell of the adjacent building, H. Fentenoy.
The public has raised concerns over the actions of the Police in the course of their investigation.
The police also said the Yumnu attended a “party” with a group of seven other people before her fall; five men and two women. The Police had initially only imposed a travel ban on Raud Ahmed Zilal from the individuals who attended the party, as Raud was the only one with her at H. Fentenoy at the time of her fall.
Amid mounting pressure, Police held a press conference at the Iskandar Koshi on Thursday, where they disclosed CCTV footage leading up to the fall.
Speaking at the press conference, CP Shujau said that, although it is not standard practice to release footage in such cases, the police are making an exception due to the public concerns and questions surrounding this particular incident.
The Police further said travel bans have been imposed on all persons of interest in the case, adding efforts were underway to search locations linked to them.

There are allegations that the young woman was potentially sexually assaulted and pushed off the building.
According to Police, on the night of the incident, the young woman, along with the seven individuals, went to a house located “in central Male", where the "party" was held.
They leave the house at around 03:40am, and four of them, including Yumnu, enter a house near STELCO in Ameenee Magu at around 04:00am. They are seen exiting the second house around 10 minutes later and then split up. Yumnu and one of the men, Raudh, walk away together. They both then enter H. Fentenoy, a house with no link to either of them.
CCTV footage shows disclosed by the Police on Thursday, shows both of them were heavily intoxicated when they entered H. Fentenoy. According to Police, both individuals have tested positive for drugs. Both of them are also seen getting intimate on the stairwell of the house.
However, Raudh is not on the same floor as Yumnu when she falls.
Yumnu sustained serious injuries from the fall. She was initially treated on a ventilator but was later reported to be breathing on her own. Nevertheless, her condition remains serious, and she is being treated in the ICU.
