Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works states ADh. Omadhoo was listed on the islands receiving Eid lights by mistake.
Omadhoo Council released a statement expressing discontentment, after Omadhoo, which was initially on the list of islands receiving Eid lights, was allegedly omitted from the list. In this regard, the Council said the Ministry informed them Omadhoo was on the list on March 6th.
The Ministry responded to the Council regarding the matter via a letter on Saturday, which was shared with Sun by the Ministry on Sunday.
In their letter, the Ministry said Omadhoo was included on the list of the islands receiving Eid lights by an administrative mistake.
The Ministry, noting that Eid lights are provided to the islands with the largest population from each atoll, said the lights were issued to Maamigli and Dhangethi from Alifu Dhaalu Atoll as they are the two islands with the largest population in the island.
The Ministry also apologized for the confusion.
Omadhoo Council, in their statement, accused the government of omitting Omadhoo from the list in order to shame the island. The statement was signed by Council President Ibrahim Adhil, Vice President Shaziyya Ismail and three council members, Mohamed Riza, Mohamed Ismail and Aminath Rasheeda.
