Schools across the Maldives closed for the annual holiday on Thursday ahead of the holy month of Ramadan which is set to begin in the upcoming weekend.
The start of the annual school holiday comes with Ramadan set to begin on Saturday.
School students collected their report forms and Thursday, and will enjoy a long break through the holy month.
According to the academic calendar released by the Education Ministry, schools will reopen for the academic new year on April 7.
Schools will close again for the first term break on July 24, and reopen again for the second term on August 10.
The second term break will begin on December 25, and schools will reopen for the academic new year 2026 on January 27.
The decision to revert the start of the academic new year back to January was one of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s presidential pledges.
