Abdul Ghafoor nominated as non-residential ambassador to Canada, Sareer to Egypt

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has asked the Parliament to approve his nominations for the roles of non-residential ambassadors to Canada and Egypt.

The letter was read at the Parliament on Tuesday morning.

In his letter, President Muizzu asked for approval to appoint:

  • Maldivian ambassador to the US Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed as non-residential ambassador to Canada
  • Maldivian ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ahmed Sareer as non-residential ambassador to Egypt

The nominations have been sent to the Foreign Relations Committee for review.

President Muizzu also asked for approval to appoint permanent representatives to three international organizations.

He nominated:

  • Maldivian ambassador to the UK Dr. Iruthisham as permanent representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO)
  • Maldivian ambassador to the UAE Mohamed Hussain Shareef as permanent representative to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IREA)
  • Permanent representative of the Maldives to the United Nations in Geneva Dr. Salma Rasheed as the permanent representative to the World Trade Organization (WTO)

The nominations, too, were sent to the Foreign Relations Committee for review.
