Maldives’ health minister leaves for Geneva to attend WHO meeting

Maldivian Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim left for Geneva, Switzerland, on Sunday, to attend a high-level meeting of the World Health Organization (WHO).

According to the Health Ministry, Nazim left for Geneva to attend the 156th session of the WHO’s executive board taking place from February 3-11.

The WHO’s executive board is composed of 34 technically qualified members elected for three-year terms. The main functions of the board are to implement the decisions and policies of the health assembly, and to advise and generally facilitate its work.

The Maldives is set serve as vice chair of the meeting.

According to the Health Ministry, the Maldives will highlight unique health challenges and advocate for the country’s priorities

Nazim is also set to meet with officials from partner countries on the sidelines of the meeting, during which he will explore ways to develop the Maldivian health sector.
