February 6th, day of presidential address, declared a holiday

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared Thursday, February 6th, as a government holiday.

The declaration was announced in the Directive No. 1/2025 published by the President’s Office on Wednesday.

According to the President’s Office, the President made the declaration in accordance with Article 84 of the Maldivian Constitution, which pertains to the day when the President delivers the annual presidential address at the Parliament.

The directive states Thursday, February 6th, the day on which the President is scheduled to deliver the presidential address, will be observed as a government holiday.

This year’s presidential address will mark the first delivered by President Muizzu during the 20th parliamentary assembly. He delivered his first presidential address after assuming office last year in February at the 19th parliamentary assembly.

The first sitting of the first session of this year is scheduled for 9:00am on February 6th.

Notably, the Parliament is scheduled to hold extraordinary sittings out of session on January 16th and January 20th during the recess period. This is for the purpose of electing members to vacant seats in independent institutions according to Parliament’s majority leader Ibrahim Falah.
