According to the Maldives Police Service, it had not discovered any evidences confirming Rajunee Shuhaib, the head of Police Economic Crime Investigation, had acquired a Vinares flat in violation of regulations.
Recently, Rajunee had provided information during a police briefing to the media about housing flats awarded to individuals unlawfully from Hulhumale’.
Following the media briefing, Rajunee was alleged to have acquired a flat from Vinares housing. Documents alleging that he had acquired the flat in violation of regulations circulated across social media, while several netizens claimed he should not be handling an investigation on potential corruption in housing.
Police later relieved him of his role at the Economic Crime Investigation unit after launching a probe on him.
Speaking about its investigation, Police Spokesperson, the Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan said on Wednesday, that the authority investigated the allegations made against Rajunee but did not find any foul play.
A day after it was reported that Housing Development Corporation (HDC) had unlawfully awarded social housing flats to individuals not listed in the Binveriya recipients list, it was reported that forged documents were used to award Vinares flats in breach of regulations as well.
Meanwhile, both of these cases have attracted public criticism.
