Forty members from a single Maldivian family traveled to Saudi Arabia in December to perform Umrah pilgrimage.

It is unclear whether such a large number of individuals from a single Maldivian family has traveled together to perform Umrah prior to this.

Via a post on X, Embassy of Maldives in Saudi Arabia said a single Maldivian family comprising 40 individuals that were in Saudi Arabia for Umrah visited the Embassy on a familiarization trip on Monday. As per the Embassy, the family was welcomed by Maldivian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ahmed Sareer who inquired about their well-being and the experiences of their Umrah visit.

No further details were disclosed by the Embassy.

As per the Islamic Ministry, a total of 6,373 Maldivians traveled to Saudi Arabia this December to perform Umrah pilgrimage. Over 800 of them are being escorted by state-owned Maldives Hajj Corporation and the remaining are being escorted by 33 private companies.
