After the recent changes to the cabinet, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday has announced the official Dhivehi language names of two ministries.

Under the authority granted to the President by Article 116(a) of the Maldives Constitution, following the said changes to the cabinet on December 26, 2024, Dr. Muizzu established these Dhivehi language names.

At this cabinet meeting, the president made the decision to merge the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development and the Ministry Construction and Infrastructure into one ministry, and appointed current Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib to helm the newly merged ministry.

The Dhivehi language name for this ministry is “Imaaraaiykurumaai, Gedhoruverikamaai Binaaraa Behey Vuzaaraa” or the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure in English.

Besides this, the mandate of national planning, which was previously a discretion of the Ministry of Housing, has been shifted under the purview of the Ministry of Finance and effectively renamed the ministry as well.

The official Dhivehi language name for this ministry is “Maaleekankamaai Tharaggeege Reyvuntherikamaa Behey Vuzaaraa” or the Ministry of Finance and Planning.
