Russia has appointed a Consular General to the Maldives for the first time.
Aleksei M. Idamkin who was appointed Consular General of Russia to the Maldives presented the Consular Commission Letter to Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel during a ceremony held at the Foreign Ministry on Monday.
Following the presentation of the letter, Foreign Minister and Idamkin held a meeting during which they discussed ways to further strengthen Maldives-Russia relations.
Minister Khaleel congratulated Idamkin via a post on X as well.
Congratulations to Mr. Aleksei M. Idamkin on his appointment as the Consul General of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Maldives. As the first Consul General to be appointed to the Maldives, his appointment is historic.

The Minister Idamkin’s role will be vital in enhancing economic partnerships and strengthening bilateral ties between Maldives and Russia as Russia stands as the second largest tourist market to the Maldives.
As of Saturday, Maldives has recorded a total of 216,092 tourist arrivals from Russia, accounting for 11 percent of the total arrivals to the Maldives.
