Documents related to ‘Gedhoruveriya’ scheme not impacted in fire

Housing Ministry states documents related ‘Gedhoruveriya’ housing scheme were not impacted in the fire that broke out at the building that houses the Ministry on Thursday morning.

The fire significantly damaged the building, rendering it beyond use.

In a statement released a short while ago, Housing Ministry said documents related to ‘Gedhoruveriya’ housing scheme are stored digitally via cloud hosting. As such, the Ministry affirmed that documents were not impacted due to the fire.

Sharing further information regarding the incident, the Ministry said none of its staff were injured in the fire.

Authorities removed documents and furniture that could be salvaged from the premises, despite there not being a lot.

They have yet to disclose the reason behind the fire.

The fire at the Housing Ministry building comes amid backlash from the public against the government over the delays in handing over flats and land plots under ‘Gedhoruvariya’ and ‘Binveriya’ housing schemes, an initiative of the former administration.
