Operations of three ministries to a halt following fire

Operations of Housing Ministry, Infrastructure Ministry and Environment Ministry have temporarily come to a halt following the fire at the building that houses their offices on Thursday morning.

The Green Building in Ameenee Magu that houses Housing Ministry Infrastructure Ministry and Environment Ministry completely was the scene of the fire. An office of Male’ City Council is situated at the building as well. 

Housing Ministry, in a statement, confirmed that none of the Ministry’s staff were injured in the fire. They also affirmed documents related to ‘Gedhoruveriya’ housing scheme were not impacted in the fire, citing they are stored digitally via cloud hosting. 

However, the Ministry’s operations have come to a halt.

In a separate statement, Infrastructure Ministry said the fire caused significant damage to its office building as a result of which the Ministry’s operations have come to a halt. The Ministry will soon announce a date its operations can be resumed.

An official from the Environment Ministry said that the Ministry's building was also significantly impacted by the fire, leading to a temporary halt of its operations.

While the fire has largely been controlled as of present, the area is still engulfed in a blanket of smoke.
