President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday evening, assured the construction of an airport in Mathiveri will be among the top priority of new airport projects next year.
While addressing the residents of Mathiveri, President Muizzu noted the airport project is "economically viable."
Speaking at the meeting, President Muizzu emphasized that the Mathiveri airport development project would benefit both the island and the surrounding region. He stressed on the project's economic viability, and urged the island's council authority and the relevant ministry to collaborate on finalizing the plans after consulting with public.
In addition to the airport development initiative, President Muizzu also announced plans for coastal protection and land reclamation in the island. Besides this he confirmed the development of a new mosque and improvements to the island's health center would commence next year.
He further requested the Attorney General to explore legal solutions related to the issue of a 40,000-square-foot unused land plot in the Mathiveri, and promised to work towards terminating the current agreement and transferring the said land to Mathiveri residents.
While speaking at the event on Sunday evening, Muizzu also outlined the two-year development plan, and announced housing projects would be among the top priorities for 2025 with developments in education and healthcare sectors to follow.
He also assured water and sewerage projects will be the next priority, and confirmed road construction and other social development initiatives as well.
