MNU to hold marathon in Feb to celebrate 51st anniversary

The Maldives National University (MNU) has announced plans to hold a marathon in February to celebrate its 51st anniversary.

The MNU Marathon will take place at the Hulhumale’ Central Park from February 20-21.

The marathon will kick off at 05:00 pm on February 20 with a 2K Kids Dash for children aged 4-7. The children can be accompanied by an adult and all children who complete the race will receive a medal.

The longest race – the 42.2K marathon – will kick off at 02:00 am on February 21, and the 21.1K half-marathon will kick off at 03:00 am. This will be followed by the 10K race at 06:00 am and the 5K race at 07:00 am.

The MNU is offering cash prizes for the winners. This includes:

  • MVR 10,000 cash prize for top three female and top three male runners of the marathon.
  • MVR 7,500 cash prize for top three female and top three male runners of the half-marathon.
  • MVR 5,000 cash prize for top three female and top three male runners of the 10K race.
  • MVR 3,000 cash prize for top three female and top three male runners of the 5K race.

The MNU Marathon is now open for registration.

The university said it plans to hold an expo at the MNU compound from February 15-19 to distribute race kits.

The MNU plans to make the marathon an annual event.
