Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal states Maldives will be targeting to achieve at least 15 awards at next year’s World Travel Awards (WTA) by competing in as many categories as possible.
Speaking at a press conference held to commemorate Maldives securing the most prestigious award at WTA, ‘World’s Leading Destination’, for the fifth consecutive time – Minister Faisal said Maldives stands the chance to win many awards at WTA even the coming year.
“Our goal for next year is to win about 15 to 20 awards and in this trajectory, we are undertaking efforts in collaboration with MMPRC and the industry,” he said.
The Minister congratulated President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for the successes achieved by the Maldives at this year’s WTA. He cited the President’s guidance and the priority regarded to develop the tourism sector as the reasons behind the successes achieved.
He also extended gratitude to all individuals working in the tourism and hospitality industry.
Speaking further, Minister Faisal, while referring to the government’s target to welcome two million tourists this year, said Maldives has welcomed a total of 1,815,000 tourists so far this year.
Statistics estimate that the two millionth tourist will arrive in the Maldives on December 25th, added the Minister.
