Attempted attack on police officer: Suspect remanded for investigation

The man who was arrested from Hulhumale’ Phase I on Friday following an attempt to attack a police officer and another individual with a sharp-edged weapon has been remanded in custody pending the completion of the investigation into the case.

The man has been identified as Hussain Faaig, 33, Lilyge, ADh. Dhangethi.

Police said he was arrested at approximately 18:30pm on suspicion of attempting to attack a person with a sharp-edged weapon. Some media outlets reported that Faaig attempted to attack a muezzin at Hulhumale’ Cemetery Mosque and then a police officer who was trying to stop him.

Police said Faaig was remanded in custody pending the completion of the investigation process.
