Maldives Marking and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) in collaboration with Addu Destination Management Office (ADMO) has debuted Addu City at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London.
Addu was showcased under a new tourism identity, ‘Addu: Beyond the Equator’ as must visit destination at a special event that launched the Addu Tourism marketing initiative.
The event was kicked off by Addy City Mayor Ali Nizar, MMPRC’s Chairperson Abdulla Ghiyas and MMPRC’s Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree. All three of them spoke about Addu’s immense potential and shared insights into the future of Addu as a destination poised to capture the hearts of international travelers.
ADMO is scheduled to engage in discussions with tour operators and travel agents from across the globe, highlighting Addu City’s unique attractions and diverse tourism offerings throughout WTM.
According to MMPRC, the brand unveiling marks a new chapter in Addu City’s tourism journey. They detailed that the decision to launch Addu City's tourism brand at the World Travel Market in London was strategically influenced by the city’s rich colonial history, particularly its significant connection to Britain during World War II and the post-war period.
In this regard, Addu atoll served as a pivotal location for British forces, hosting a Royal Air Force Base on the island of Gan. This historical relationship has left an enduring legacy in Addu, where remnants of British architecture, cultural influences, and shared memories persist to date.
MMPRC said selecting London for Addu's global debut pays homage to this history and reflects a unique bond between Addu and Britain by positioning travelers at a place where they can experience not only the scenic beauty and local culture of the Maldives but also a destination-rich with stories that stretch across continents and generations.
“This launch at WTM London is more than a promotional opportunity; it is an invitation for the world, especially British visitors, to rediscover a place where their own history intertwines with Addu's unique heritage, fostering a sense of familiarity while exploring an exotic, untold side of the Maldives,” said MMPRC.
‘Addu: Beyond the Equator’ tourism identity was unveiled last month alongside a special website.
