China team initiates feasibility study on Male’ and Vilimale’ road project

A team of experts appointed by the Chinese government have arrived in the Maldives to initiate the feasibility study on a project to redevelop the roads of Male’ City and suburban Vilimale’.

According to the Infrastructure Ministry, the team arrived in Male’ on Sunday.

The Infrastructure Ministry held an introductory session with the team on Monday. The meeting was led by State Minister for Infrastructure Tho’aam Mohamed, with the participation of the ministry’s technical team.

According to the Infrastructure Ministry, the team from China initiated stakeholder consultations, site surveys, and data collection on Tuesday. They are expected to wrap up the work on November 21.

The feasibility study will be the basis of the subsequent design and planning works of the project – which is being funded by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) or China Aid.

The redevelopment of the roads of Male’ and Vilimale’ is one of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s electoral pledges.

The letter of exchange on the feasibility study for the project was signed between Maldives’ Infrastructure Ministry and China Aid in July.
