Maldives Media Council (MMC)’s President Ahmed Musthafa who was dismissed from his post at state media, Public Service Media (PSM), on Thursday, has been reinstated just a day later.
PSM’s Deputy Manager Director Abdulla Yameen confirmed Musthafa’s reinstatement to Sun.
As per Yameen, Musthafa appealed his dismissal to the company’s board which following review found grounds for reinstatement.
PSM’s Managing Director Mohamed Saeed also confirmed to Sun that a board meeting was held on the matter this evening.
When inquired regarding his dismissal, Yameen said Musthafa was dismissed from his post in line with an “internal procedure”.
Sun has learned that Musthafa was dismissed from his post for airing content that violates PSM’s editorial policy while broadcasting the 11th Journalism Awards live on the channel on Wednesday night.
Notably, it had been the company’s board that took the decision to dismiss him.
At the time of his dismissal, Musthafa held the post of Technical Operations Manager and had worked at PSM for over 30 years.
Musthafa was appointed to MMC as the member representing TVM. He was elected the Council’s President two years ago.
