President appeals to graduates to resolve to build the nation; assures housing

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Thursday, has appealed to graduates to resolve to build the nation as their biggest goal.

He made the appeal while speaking as the chief guest at the convocation ceremony of Maldives National University (MNU).

In his speech, the President underscored that youths who graduate and become employed, continue to live with their family while paying rent. Henceforth, he cited housing as the most pertinent need of youths after graduation.

On this note, he described the state budget being presented before the Parliament today as the budget most extensively aimed at creating housing opportunities.

“I want to note two things from the budget which will be presented today that are aimed at ensuring housing opportunities. In this regard, MVR 1.5 billion in fiscal construction housing projects will be implemented next year. The housing loan scheme with interest that is not higher than five percent as I have pledged will be launched next week or early next month,” he said.

Speaking further, President Muizzu noted that his administration was undertaking significant efforts to diversify the economy and create more employment opportunities. In this trajectory, highlighted the introduction of creative economy with efforts being also undertaken to also development a payment gateway system.

“What I want to say is, to aim to do something for the nation with what you have achieved through sheer willpower. We will focus on ensuring your housing needs are met. To create opportunities from various fields, including employment,” he said.

President Muizzu, in his speech, also shared his eight-year experience in the UK to attain his higher education. He advised graduates against forgetting the hard work they had undertaken and the sacrifices they made to complete their studies. He added that their resolve will be strengthened by remembering the seas crossed to attain education.

The President also advised graduates to aim to trust themselves no matter what crises they may face.
