We need to boost the use of data in order to improve the efficiency of the functioning of state institutions, says Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed.

He made the remark in his address at a ceremony held on Wednesday to mark the National Statistics Day.

In his address, Haidar said that the statistics system in the Maldives is a decentralized one, and stressed the need to further improve the system using technological advancements.

He added that the data collected from the system needs to be used to formulate policies and expedite efforts to resolve the challenges facing the development of the Maldives.

He stressed the need for proper management of data collected by all state institutions.

“At the same time, we need to familiarize officials working in all the different institutions and councils regarding data, and boost the use of data for the development of this nation,” he said.

Haidar added that the young generation must be well-versed in how to identify and use data, and find innovative solutions to address developmental challenges with the aid of technological advancements.

During Wednesday’s ceremony, Haidar helped inaugurated the ‘Statistical Pocketbook’ that highlights the importance of data in national development.

Maldives began marking a National Statistics Day in 2022. The theme for this year is ‘statistics for an intelligence-driven future.”
