President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, at the recommendation of his cabinet, has announced the formulation of a masterplan, in accordance with regional best practices, on the application of artificial intelligence for economic advantage.
The decision was reached after deliberations during a cabinet meeting held on Wednesday.
As per the President’s Office, the masterplan consists of risk management in utilizing AI and the design of a legal framework on AI technology.
The Office said President, at the meeting, decided that upon formulation of the masterplan, relevant documentation would be presented to the cabinet by the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology and the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.
Speaking at an event on the e sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly, President Muizzu affirmed underscored Maldives' efforts to develop a digital economy. In this regard, he highlighted that efforts were underway to leverage AI to increase productivity.
