Dr. Abdulla Fairoosh who was shifted from state minister at Higher Education Ministry to state minister at Home Ministry.

Dr. Abdulla Fairoosh, who had been serving as a State Minister at the Higher Education Ministry has been shifted to Home Ministry in the same capacity.

Fairoosh published a post on X following his departure from Higher Education Ministry during which he thanked Higher Education Minister Dr. Mariyam Mariya and the Ministry’s team for the cooperation rendered during his tenure.

A senior government official confirmed to Sun that Fairoosh was shifted to Home Ministry as a State Minister.

The shift comes after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Tuesday, announced his decision to dismiss 228 political appointees.

Prior to this, Fairsoosh worked at Maldives Police Service and retired honorably in 2021 after 20 years of service. At the time of his retirement, he was serving as an Assistant Commissioner of Police.

However, Parliament rejected his honorable retirement in the same year in light of multiple allegations against him.

The issue of Fairoosh’s retirement was submitted by then-Speaker, former President Mohamed Nasheed, citing his retirement could not be accepted since the new Maldives Police Service Act had been ratified, which would require retirement in accordance with the new legislature.

Fairoosh had taken over as Acting Police Commissioner, following the fall of Nasheed’s administration on February 7, 2012. He is accused of playing a key role in the civil unrest preceding Nasheed’s resignation - which Nasheed maintains had been forced.
