Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has opened an internal investigation into allegations a staffer at the Koodoo Fisheries Complex is being severely bullied by his colleagues.

The allegations were made by the sister of the staffer via her Facebook account on Saturday. The case drew public attention after it was shared on various Facebook pages.

According to the woman, her brother is visually impaired and suffers from a mental disability. She said that her brother has been facing constant harassment and riddicule, and even physical violence from a group of his colleagues.

She said that the harassment is so bad that he is unable to eat at the canteen and often avoids eating altogether in order to avoid the harassment.

She also said that the group workers have even hit him in the head.

“I don’t know what I am supposed to do. There’s nothing that I can do to please them,” wrote the woman, on behalf of her brother.

She said that her brother suffers from epilepsy, and that the situation is worsening his condition.

In a statement on Monday, MIFCO said that it is investigating the case.

It provided assurance it will take necessary action following a thorough investigation.

“Bullying and other forms of harassment of staffers is not something this company will tolerate,” said MIFCO.
