Yellow alert extended as strong winds and rough seas prevail

Maldives Metrological Service (Met Office) has extended the yellow alert issued earlier today as strong winds and rough seas prevail.

The yellow alert issued from Raa Atoll to Vaavu Atoll was extended until 19:00pm tonight.

As per Met Office, the region will experience strong winds of 28 to 25 miles per house with gusts of 55 miles per hour alongside very rough seas during this period.

A white alert is simultaneously in effect from Haa Alifu Atoll to Laamu Atoll until 21:00pm tonight.

The Met Office predicts heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds of 19 to 24 miles per hour, with gusts of 45 miles per hour, along with rough seas.

Henceforth, most of the nation is expected to experience strong winds and rough seas. 

Authorities have urged the public, especially seafarers, to exercise caution in light of the ongoing bad weather spell.
