Developer Mohamed Jailam has launched the ‘Dhivehi Foiy’ app – the Maldives’ first mobile application that allows readers to purchase and read Dhivehi e-books.

The app allows easy access to Dhivehi books and magazines, and is also designed to archive and preserve ancient books literature, and make it available from a single platform.

The app has editions of a number of Dhivehi magazines, including Addana, Hidhaayathuge Ali, Dharuma, Dhiislam, Faiythoora, and Jamaa’athuge Khabaru. Editions of old magazines such as Sandhaanu, Adduvas, Sangu, Hukuru, and Al-Islaah are also available for free reading.

The ‘Dhivehi Foiy’ app also has works on literature on different topics as well as storybooks.

The app’s developer Jailam said that the e-books for sale can be purchased via the Bank of Maldives (BML)’s online payment gateway. The books can be downloaded to mobile phones, tablets and other electronic devices.

Security features in the app prevent people from taking screenshots of downloaded books.

“With this app, authors can sell their books online and generate an income. This is the first such application especially for Dhivehi writers,” said Jailam.

The app is available for free download on Android and OIS app stores.

The app generates its income through commissions from the sale of books via the app.

The team that developed the app believes such a platform will make it easier for local writers to publish their works. It also allows readers to access Dhivehi books from anywhere in the world.

Jailam said that his team is working on introducing more features to the app, including introducing audio books.
