Former lawmaker Dr. Anara Naeem has released a book on the Maldivian democratic system from the perspective of Islamic Sharia.
The book was launched by the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM)’s vice chancellor Dr. Ibrahim Zakariyya Moosa on Tuesday.
Anara said the book is based on research she conducted for her thesis.
She said that it took four years to translate the thesis – which she wrote in Arabic – to the Dhivehi language and write the book.
“Praise be to Allah; this is a happy day. The launch of this book also comes at a very opportune time,” she said, referring to the upcoming presidential election.
Anara said that the five-chapter book also includes results of a survey she conducted.
“This book also includes the results of a survey I conducted and the opinion of the people who took part in the survey. It also includes what the results tell us, and recommendations based on the results and recommendations for other policy changes,” she said.
She thanked everyone who helped her in writing her book, including her teachers and family.
Anara has donated her book to colleges, universities, libraries, and local councils.
Speaking at the launch event, Zakariyya said that writing a book is hard work, and said that Anara deserves commendation and recognition for her work.
