Gaamagu Café fire: MNDF active at scene following reports of reignition

Authorities have returned to the scene following reports of reignition of fire in the building where ‘Gaamagu Café’ is located which was the scene of a massive fire earlier this afternoon.

In a message to the media, the Maldives Police Service said the officers alongside Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) were at the scene following reports of reignition of fire. They provided no further details.

Members of the general public have shared photos on social media, citing the reignition of fire at the building.

The fire was reported to authorities at approximately 14:47pm late Monday afternoon.

In a message to the media regarding the fire, MNDF said two women were taken to ADK Hospital for treatment following the incident. One of them, a 30-year-old migrant has now been discharged, said MNDF citing the hospital, adding the other’s condition, who is a 48-year-old Maldivian woman, is also improving.

Via a post on X, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) detailed that 22 Maldivians and 15 foreigners are in distress and therefore, the authority was undertaking efforts to provide humanitarian aid for them.
