The injured kidnapper, who was apprehended while holding a woman hostage at knife point, during his attempt to evade authorities on Thursday evening, has been admitted to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for consistent vomiting.
Maldives Police Service confirms that Ahmed Akhtar, the kidnapper, began vomiting after had been discharged from ADK Hospital following initial treatment to the injuries he sustained when police had to use force to apprehend him.
Police confirmed Akhtar was dismissed from ADK Hospital sometime on Friday after receiving treatment to his injuries, but was later admitted to IGMH after his condition seemingly worsened.
He is kept at the IGMH Observation for treatment, police added.
Police revealed that the female hostage, now identified as a police officer, had received beatings from the kidnapper. She had been dragged out of the Maafannu residence, where the incident took place, and beaten as well, police added.
Akhthar, while holding the woman hostage, had threatened to kill her if police that had arrived on the scene, attempted to pursuit him. He forced her on a bike, and attempted to ride off, but was apprehended by police who had to resort to force in neutralizing the situation and rescue the woman.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police had met with all the officers dispatched to the incident’s site on Thursday night and praised them for their exceptional conduct and bravery.
