No state funds used on personal trips: President

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Friday, has stated he did not spend the state’s funds in any of the personal trips made abroad since assuming presidency.

He made the statement in a special interview with SanguTV, in which he had responded to opposition’s allegations of him abusing state funds for personal needs.

While responding to the questions, Dr. Muizzu said that as per regulations there is no legal objection for him to utilize the funds allocated to Muliaage, the presidential palace, for foreign trips, but affirmed he has never utilized the funds for any of his personal trips since assuming presidency despite the opportunity for it.

“I have never spent except from my own funds for personal trips and accommodation, whether it was for me, my wife, or my children,” he said.

After assuming office, the presidential coupled resided at Dr. Muizzu’s personal residence in Male’ City, M. Dhimyath until renovations in Muliaage completed. He assured he had spent from his own pockets during this period as well.

“I never utilized the state funds for any of my own expenses, and I use my own money for my expenses as much as I can,” he added.

Disclosure of expenses incurred for official foreign trips made by the President and Vice President is a policy implemented by the current government, which was established to ensure transparency of the state’s expenditure.

Expense details of all official trips of President Muizzu is publicly disclosed.
