The Maldives Customs Service has confiscated MVR 1 million worth drugs smuggled via Maldives Post.
Customs said it confiscated the drugs, last Tuesday, smuggled through Maldives Post in four packages. It said the items were discovered amid inspection.
The packages contained synthetic cathinone weighing 0.6 kilograms with an estimated street value of MVR 1 million, Customs added. The authority has handed over the items to Maldives Police Service for further investigation.
Local law enforcement authorities have increased vigilance to nab smuggled narcotics, while police statistics show a total of 1,102 cases related to drugs reported so far in 2024.
