The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Thursday launched its strategic plan 2024-2029 inclusive of guidelines for risk mitigation.
The State Minister of Defense Aishath Safoora introduced the new NDMA strategic plan during a ceremony.
NDMA Chief Executive, Hisan Hassan highlighted the importance of factoring risk aversion or mitigation policies, contingencies for other setbacks, and forward-thinking approaches to avert future crisis events in projects.
He added that thorough research preceded the plan, which had comprehensively analyzed areas of improvement in governance and management.
Despite active and historical efforts of risk mitigation in crisis events, Hisan said additional work was imperative.
Besides risk aversion framework, the plan also focuses on improving its humanitarian responses and services provided to the public.
Speaking at the ceremony, the State Minister of Defense highlighted the impact of climate change Maldives face owing to its tropical and low-lying nature, and urged taking timely action to mitigate disasters. She added that every island in the country should be prepared to address crisis events.
