Registration of cafés, restaurants under MFDA

Issuance of Food Establishment Registration has been changed from HPA to MFDA in accordance with the now enforced Food Safety Act.

The government has changed issuance of Food Establishment Registration from Health Protection Agency (HPA) to Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA).

HPA provided the service through 'oneGov' multi-agency portal.

MFDA, in a statement, said under the newly enforced Food Safety Act, the registration and authorization of eateries provided by HPA has been changed under MFDA's discretion.

These services will not be available from HPA's 'oneGov' profile until Thursday since these services will migrate from HPA to MFDA.

For inquiries, MFDA requested to contact them at 3014361 during official hours, and at 7603204 during unofficial hours.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu ratified the Food Safety Act earlier on May 23rd. The act was enforced last Friday.

Under the new act, MFDA will be able to fine unregistered eateries, cafés and restaurants between MVR 50,000 and MVR 100,000. The authority can raid or inspect such establishments and take other legal action against them as well.
