Two families from flood-affected Male’ homes remain in temporary shelters

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Sunday that two families, out of those who were affected from the flooding Male’ City experienced last Tuesday, are still in temporary shelters.

Male’ City experienced flooding last Tuesday due to torrential rainfall that lasted almost the entire day.

NDMA provided temporary shelters to five families that includes 23 adults and 13 children. The families reported significant damages to their residences during Tuesday’s rainfall, making it difficult for them to live there.

An official of NDMA confirmed to ‘Sun’ Online on Sunday that out of the five families, only two remain in temporary shelter now which is a total of 10 people, and added one of these families will shift back to their residence sometime on Sunday. The other family is expected to move to their residence on Monday.

NDMA earlier said it had received 256 distress reports in Male’ City alone following Tuesday’s rainfall. The authority added majority of the damages were reported from northern-atolls with 20 such cases reported from Haa Alifu atoll.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) officials provided assistance to affected families in Haa Alifu atoll Hoarafushi, Kelaa, Ihavanadhoo, and Haa Dhaalu atoll Hanimaadhoo and Kulhudhuffushi City.
