Police requests halting bus and heavy vehicle transport

Maldives Police Service has requested on Tuesday a temporary halt on all bus and heavy vehicle transportation following extensive floods across Maldives capital, Male’ City.

The authority issued a statement notifying several residences have reported of flood water entry and requested a halt on heavy vehicle transportation until the flood waters pumped out of the city.

The police have requested only making necessary transfers across the city until authorities bring the city back to normalcy.

The authority has been installing sand-bag barriers across various residences and buildings across the city to stop flooding.

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has released a statement following the torrential rain, notifying the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) Orchid Route bus (R10) and Ameenee Route (R11) bus transfers have been temporarily halted.

Additionally, MTCC has designated Maafannu Bus Terminal as the last stop for West Park and Hulhumale's Route (R1), West Park and VIA Route (R3), and West Park and Hulhumale's Phase II Route (R7) bus transfers.

Police also cautioned motorcycle riders not to travel across Sinamale’ Bridge and the highway carrying umbrellas owing to heavy rainfall and wind.

The Maldives Meteorological Center (MET Office) has also warned of continuing heavy rainfall accompanied by rough seas and cautioned not to make any trips via sea unless extremely necessary.

 

The weather forecast authority had issued an orange alert from Kaafu to Alifu Dhaalu atolls, effective from 14:15 hours to 18:15 hours on Tuesday evening, the authority forecast torrential rain accompanied by thunderstorms with flooding.
