MET issues Yellow Alert for northern atolls

Maldives Meteorological Center (MET Office) has issued yellow alert for northern parts of the country, forecasting bad weather.

MET issues the alert effective from Haa Alif to Meemu atolls.

Th specified region is expected to experience heavy rainfall, with wind speeds between 25 to 30 miles per hour. Gusts are expected to reach 50 miles per hour for the area.

The yellow alert was issued effective from 18:00hrs to 22:00hrs on Saturday evening.

With Eid-ul-Adha holidays concluded now, many of the locals who traveled within the country are now traveling back to their residential islands before schools and offices resume.

MET forecasts the weather to prolong until coming Monday, and added strong winds for northern and central parts of Maldives until Wednesday.

The authority added seas are expected to be moderately rough for northern and central parts, but calmer in the south.
