Local students appointed official representatives of Maldives Hajj Mission in a first

Local students studying in Saudi Arabia have been appointed official representatives of Maldives’ Hajj Mission, in a first.

Islamic Ministry said local students will be involved in the provision of service for Maldivian pilgrims in the course of this year’s Hajj pilgrimage alongside Maldives Hajj Mission.

In this regard, the Ministry said Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has decided to facilitate this opportunity for local students every year, starting this year.

Prior to this, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Minister Shaheem met with local students studying in Saudi Arabia, during which they affirmed the administration’s commitment to provide such opportunities.

Saudi Arabia allocated a total of 1,150 quotas to the Maldives for Hajj this year, including an additional 150 quotas which were allocated later.

The first group of pilgrims from the Maldives departed for Saudi Arabia on May 31^st.

The last group of pilgrims, comprising of 150 people, departed on Monday.

Notably, this year’s pilgrims include the first 50 low-income individuals to receive state-sponsored Hajj trips in line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s electoral pledge to provide state-sponsored Hajj trips for 1,000 low-income individuals during his five-year term.

Islamic Ministry has reported that all pilgrims are in good health.
