Productive discussions with President: Jaishankar

Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. Subramanyam Jaishankar has said he had a productive discussion with the President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, during the latter's visit to India to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony.

Highlighting that he had a good meeting with President Muizzu, the Indian External Affairs Minister said he "would be guided by" his experience and conversation in maintaining the diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Jaishankar will be keeping his External Affairs Minister position in the third-term cabinet of Modi.

President Muizzu met Jaishankar on Monday upon the External Affairs Minister's request. The two discussed on strengthening bilateral cooperation between India and the Maldives during their meeting, and focused on areas of mutual interest and cooperation.

Prior to meeting with the External Affairs Minister, President Muizzu had met with Prime Minister Modi and met with Indian President Droupadi Murmu as well.

Modi also viewed their meeting signified the close ties between India and the Maldives, and noted that he looks forward to working together.

This is the first visit to India by President Muizzu since his inauguration in November 17, last year.

President Muizzu arrived in Male' on Tuesday morning after concluding his visit.
