Gulhifalhu plot allocation to restart post random selection

Ministry of Housing on Monday said Gulhifalhu plot allocation will restart from scratch after the random selection for the plot swapping applicants scheduled for Tuesday.

The random selection is being held to select the finalists among applicants who requested to swap their plots in Giraavarufalhu to Gulhifalhu earlier, under the Binveriya Scheme.

This was announced at the press conference held by the ministry on Monday.

State Minister of Housing Ministry Mohamed Dhilshan Abdulla said they have planned to start Gulhifalhu plot allocation from scratch as soon as the plot-swap applicants are selected on Tuesday.

"We have amended the land-use plan, which we reworked since the previous land-use plan was inadequate," he said.

The option for applicants to swap the plots they were awarded in Giraavarufalhu to Gulhifalhu, first announced on April 07th was later extended to April 18th. More than 2,000 applicants had submitted requests wishing to swap their plots within the provided window by the current government.

Housing Ministry said it extended the window upon the requests from several pilgrims currently in Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj, as well as by the President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The ministry added that despite the absence of pilgrims, the random selection will proceed as planned. The selection is scheduled from 09:00hrs to 10:00hrs on Tuesday morning at the Rannabandeyri Hall of Dharubaaruge.

This includes the 1,093 applicants for 1,250-square-foot plots, and 880 applicants for the 1,650-square-foot plots.
