President Muizzu returns to Male’ after attending SIDS4

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Friday, returned to the Maldives after concluding an official to Antigua and Barbuda to attend the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4).

The President, who also co-chaired the conference, delivered Maldives’ statement at the conference, during which he called on the international community to honor its past commitments and meet SIDS's tailored financing needs. In this regard, he said the international community must provide SIDS with credit enhancement measures, and reduce costs of borrowing.

He also condemned the acts of violence and aggression by Israel and called on the leaders of SIDS for collective solidarity with the people of Palestine.

Apart from participating in various discussions at the conference, President Muizzu also engaged in numerous sideline events and held high-level bilateral and multilateral meetings. Notably, he met with Patricia Scotland, the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth during which he called upon the Commonwealth to expand its role in supporting SIDS, positioned at the forefront of multiple global crises, notably climate change.

President Muizzu was accompanied by a delegation of top officials during the visit. 

They included: Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer; Environment Minister Toriq Ibrahim; Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidar; Climate Envoy Ali Shareef; HDC’s Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed; and Ambassador-at-large Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed.
