South-Thinadhoo MP-elect Mohamed Alsan, who contended independently has joined the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) on Thursday.
Alsan handed over his membership form to the party's President and the Maldives head of state Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Prior to joining the party, Alsan had met with Dr. Muizzu for the discussion meetings at Muliaage along with senior members of PNC.
The meetings were attended by PNC parliamentary group leader, Inguraidhoo MP-elect Ibrahim Falah, and President Muizzu's nominees for parliament Speaker and Vice Speaker, Fonadhoo MP-elect Abdulraheem Abdulla and Dhiggaru MP-elect Ahmed Nazim, respectively, as well.
At the parliamentary election held in April, Alsan had defeated Abdulla Shareef, who contended under a PNC ticket; Zifleen Hassan, aligned with MDP; and independent candidates Saudhath Shakir and Hassan Faihath.
Alsan is also among the youngest parliamentarians to get elected for the 20th assembly.
